The Art of Healing: Celebrating Creativity

9/18/2017, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Location: New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland
335 Brighton Avenue Portland ME 04102

New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland will join rehabilitation providers across the nation from September 17-23, 2017, in celebration of National Rehabilitation Week with the theme “The Power of Rehabilitation.”

Community members are invited to join two public events:

Monday, September 18, 4:00-6:00, in Café Brighton - The Art of Healing: Celebrating Creativity.  At New England Rehab Hospital, art fills our halls, brightening the days of our patients, family, and staff. Most of the art is created by our patients, some of whom had never picked up a paint brush or a knitting needle before their illness or injury.  This event offers them a chance to share their work and to talk about how their art has helped them in their healing journeys.

For more information contact Kathy Kroll at 662-8589 or email Kathy.kroll@healthsouth.com.

Thursday, September 21, 3:00-4:00, in the Brighton Room (3rd floor) - Tai Chi demonstration for all levels of fitness and ability.  Jason Ames of the Maine Center for Taijiquan & Qigong will demonstrate this martial art that emphasizes internal power.  Known as a life-long exercise program, Tai Chi is seemingly simple and deceptively gentle, but delivers a substantial workout.  The seated version of these exercises can be practiced at home or at work, in an easy chair or a wheelchair, and without the need for any equipment.
